Miguel Durán-Sindreu obtiene el premio "Young Engineer" en la EuMC 2012
Miguel Durán-Sindreu, investigador de CIMITEC, ha obtenido el Young Engineer Prize de la European Microwave Conference 2012, celebrada en Amsterdam entre el 29 de octubre y el 1 de noviembre, con el trabajo "Novel Fully-Planar Extended-Composite Right/Left Handed Transmission Line based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide for Multi-Band Applications". El premio galardona el mejor trabajo presentado en la conferencia por un investigador de hasta 30 años.

Ferran Martín, Prof. of Electronics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, director of CIMITEC and member of EMET, has been elevated to the degree of Fellow of the IEEE for his contributions to metamaterial-based transmission lines for microwave applications. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement. 321 individuals have been elevated to IEEE Fellow for 2011.

La Politècnica de València crea un material que crea una capa invisible.
Unos investigadores de la Universitat Politècnica de València han fabricado un material nuevo con propiedades nunca vistas: de hecho una de sus aplicaciones podría ser convertir en invisibles objectos. Con el material nuevo que han conseguido se podría crear una capa invisible. Si esa capa se utiliza para cubrir un objecto, en principio, de tamaño pequeño, como un microchip, resultaría invisible a la vista. See video

Miguel Navarro Cia (Universidad Pública de Navarra) - COIT/AEIT awardee for Best Doctoral Thesis in Basic Principles and Technologies of Information and Communications, and Applications.
The Spanish Association of Telecommunication Engineers was pleased to report on May 27th 2011 that the "Best Doctoral Thesis in Basic Principles and Technologies of Information and Communications, and Applications" recipient corresponding to the XXXI Edition of Awards "Telecommunication Engineers" 2010 is Dr. Miguel Navarro-Cia. The awards ceremony took place on June 22nd in the Spanish Institute of Engineering. The event was chaired by the President of the Spanish Association of Telecommunication Engineers, Eugenio Oñate Fontan, and the ceremony was closed by the director of the Center for Industrial Technological Development, Arturo Azcorra Saloña. The Ph.D. student at University of Seville José Miguel Algarín Guisado has been awarded the "Young Scientist Prize URSI 2010" during the Closing Ceremony of the XXVth Simposium Nacional de la URSI.
This prize corresponds to the paper entitled: "Lentes de permeabilidad -1: Resolución y Aplicación en la Imagen por Resonancia Magnética en Paralelo" (in Spanish) which was co-authored by Manuel Freire, Ricardo Marqués and Marcos López (Microwaves Group of the University of Seville).
The prize for young scientists (below 35 years old) is awarded on an annual basis by the Scientific Committee of the Unión Científica Internacional de Radio (URSI). The 2010 issue of the national simposium organized by this society (the most important conference in the field in Spain) was held during the month of September in Bilbao (Spain). More than 250 papers authored by more than 750 authors were presented. The awarded paper was chosen among a reduced number of finalists who presented their papers in a special session. Prof. Ricardo Marqués Sillero (University of Seville), leader of the GM-US, partner of EMET Consolider project, has been the Chair of the Technical Programme Committee of the IV Metamaterials Conference
The Fourth International Congress on Advanced Electromagnetic Materials in Microwaves and Optics, held the past month of September in Karlsruhe (Germany), organized by the European Network of Excellence Metamorphose, attracted more than 380 participants and 314 papers were presented during the four days of the conference, with authors coming from 44 countries. Spanish researchers contributed 29 papers, thus making our country the fourth (after USA, Germany and UK) in number of contributions. Conference website

Francisco Medina Mena, member of the EMET team in the University of Seville, has been elevated this year to the grade of IEEE Fellow
The IEEE Board of Directors elevated Francisco Medina to IEEE Fellow with the following citation: "for contributions to the analysis and physical understanding of planar structures, anisotropic media, and metamaterials".
The MTT Society has also promoted to the grade of IEEE Fellow another researcher in the metamaterials field: Prof. Christophe Caloz (École Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada). This is indicative of the importance of metamaterials research in modern microwave engineering practice. Read all
